When one is in the midst of the travel day from hell, one spends much of one’s time in airports cooling one’s heels. Which leaves plenty of time to stay current - even from 8,000 miles away - on Knik Arm Crossing (one of the bridges to nowhere) late breaking news. Yesterday, poll results were […]

Yesterday - our travel day from Hell - finally finished up at 3:00 AM PDT/6:00 AM EDT. Our plane landed at Sea-Tac at 1:30 AM, we arrived at the hotel at 2:30 AM, and I think Peter was sound asleep by 2:45 AM. I unfortunately couldn’t sleep - I think I finally might have drifted […]

One of the great things about Muby and Chuck’s home in Sarasota is the wildlife - particularly during the winter. This morning, we had two Sandhill Cranes stop by for a visit. Sandhill Cranes are migratory birds and we have a pair that nest during the summer within about 1/2 mile of our home in […]

Wow - Lance Mackey is in the lead going out of Shaktoolik (don’t you just love Alaska village names?). What makes Lance’s lead so amazing is that he won the Yukon Quest, a thousand mile race, less than a month ago. There are many who consider the Quest to be a more difficult and grueling […]

Sigh….
The Ski Boy and I are here at the Orlando Airport. Our Alaska Airlines flight to Seattle is 3 1/2 hours late. ugh…We won’t arrive in Seattle until 1:00 AM. Big ugh…At this point, we’re just hoping the flight won’t be any later than it already is.
The Orlando Airport isn’t hideous, but the Seattle airport […]

I think it’s safe to say the we spent most of the day poolside here at Muby and Chuck’s. They have a wonderful screened in back patio and pool - and you can either sit in the shade or work on your tan (or melanoma) in the full sun. On a day like today, it’s […]

It was a gorgeous day here in Sarasota: 84 degrees and not at all muggy. A vast improvement over Anchorage’s high of 19 degrees. And definitely quite a bit warmer than the sub-zero temperatures along the Yukon stretch of the Iditarod.
This afternoon, Peter and I drove Alix up to the Tampa airport for her flight […]

For the first time in a bazillion years (at least 20 years), I’m not at home during the Iditarod. It’s very odd to follow the race afar from Colorado and then Florida. It certainly doesn’t feel like Iditarod weather down here in the sub-tropics.
From what I read, it appears as if the trail conditions have […]

I’ve arrived for a whirlwind Florida trip (and I’m gonna miss my brother yet again) - we’re in the midst of a “realative-gasm” a ton of cousins, brothers, daughters, nephews, parents, etc. I’m hiding out by the pool. For someone from a small, reserved (but loving) mid-westen family, this is all a bit overwhelming. That […]

I spent the day doing Mile High City (and nearby environs) stuff. This morning, I walked down to Union Station to take a few photos. I re-discovered Denver’s Union Station yesterday when I was geocaching in Lo-Do. I was born in Denver - Mom and I didn’t move to Alaska until 1965 when I was […]
