I Tried to Caucus - I Really Tried

I am one massively frustrated Slat Rat this evening. I left work at 5:00 PM to make the drive across town to Begich Middle School for the Democratic Presidential Caucus which was scheduled to get underway at 6:00 PM. That drive takes about fifteen minutes - twenty five if the traffic is really awful. Why the Anchorage Democrats decided to hold the caucus in just one location - on the East side of town instead of mid-town to boot - is beyond me. Terrible planning on their part. All of Democratic Anchorage descending merging in with normal rush hour traffic combined to create a nightmare.

It took me an hour and a half to get to Begich. The traffic was unbelievable. Then when I arrived, the traffic jam surrounding the school was the stuff of legend - total gridlock. At ten below zero.

I finally gave up, extricated myself from the traffic jam and came home.

Just in case anyone is curious, I would have caucused for Obama. sigh…

Pooh managed to get to Begich and then caucus. So at least one member of the family was represented.

  1. Scott responds:

While it’s sad that you missed the caucus, I’d say that Alaska was overwhelmingly behind your choice for Obama - with 95% reporting, he has 74% of the AK vote! Holy cow, that aint even remotely close…

  2. ski boy responds:

Yup, Scott, we are so main stream here that even Ron Paul beat McCain, who came in 4th, in the republican caucus.
