The Deep Freeze Continues
Our cold snap continues - although yesterday and today, it actually warmed up into the teens during the day. But the nights still drop down to 20 below. Quite the temperature swing.
However, we don’t hold a candle to interior Alaska. The Daily News has had several amusing articles on the cold snap. So far, this is my favorite quote:
Minus 40 and below. Brookelyn Belinger writes from Big Delta in today’s Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, giving something of a taste of what it’s like at minus 40 degrees and colder, which has been the case in the area for better than a week now. (She says it was minus 58 at her place Tuesday.) Among other things, outhouse visits have been “brutal,” she writes.
Here are few pics - unfortunately, no outhouse shots.
The daughter of a good friend of mine sent me a Flat Stanley. My friend and his family currently reside in Vermont so I’m trying for good Alaska shots. I’ve carted around the Flat Stanley for the past two weeks while hunting for a moose. However, the moose hunker down during cold snaps. So, no luck on the moose front. But I did take this reasonably impressive picture Tuesday morning at Mom’s house in East Anchorage.
Yesterday, Tygey and I ventured out on the Inlet Ice. A very nifty deal. One does not do this in the summer or even during a mild winter. Quicksand mud. However, now that we’re in the midst of arctic conditions, the Inlet ice beckoned.
Tyge’s right foot was getting a tad cold. You can see that he’s listing to Port just a bit. The southwest end of the Alaska range is in the background. That’s beginning of the Aluetian chain.
Hello. I am
