Red Sox Sock It To Mariners

Tonight was game one of the three game Red Sox-Mariners series in Seattle and of course, The Ski Boy, Pooh, Alix, and myself were snug in our Safeco seats for the first pitch (actually waaaaaay before the first pitch - The Ski Boy likes to arrive early).

For 8 and 2/3’s innings it was a very tight game. Felix was on for the Mariners. And amazingly, Bartolo Colon pitched a gem - 7 innings and just one run. But with two outs in the 8th, the wheels came off for poor Felix. Peter and I both think the Seattle manager erred in not pulling Felix after Pedroia’s ground rule double. The Red Sox scored 4 runs in the 8th inning and ended up winning the game 5-3.

We were treated to two fabulous fielding plays. Ichiro made an amazing basket catch just before bouncing off the wall. It was such a treat to be there live for Sports Center’s top play of the day. Later in the game, Adrian Beltre made a huge play at 3rd: he spread out, snagged the ball, touched 3rd to force out the runner and then managed to turn around, fire the ball to first just in time to catch the runner. A real gem!

Game One goes to Boston. The Ski Boy is a very happy camper.
