“OOOOOH EIGHT” - Songya Graduates!

Yesterday was one big Songya-Stanford graduation fest!!!! The festivities kicked off at 9:30 AM at Stanford Stadium (we arrived an hour early to get both a parking spot and good seats). Two hours later, we adjourned to Memorial Hall for the Engineering Department’s diploma ceremonies, then off to socialize with professors, and the day finished off with a wonderful family Chinese dinner.

It was a great weekend - all centered around celebrating Songya’s graduation, family, and friends. Pretty darn great.

And of course, I’m going to subject you all to a ton of pictures.

The Ski Boy and I were unaware of the Stanford tradition: The “Wacky Walk”. The graduates parade into the stadium - just like any other graduation ceremony. However, once they enter the stadium, the proceedings divert from the usual. Costumes, cavorting, you name it. Just a total blast - everyone is just so darn happy and goofy.

Peter and I had no idea who the commencement speaker would be. We figured that because we were at Stanford, the chances were good that the speaker would at least be interesting. Friday night, while at dinner with Songya, Mei-Ling and Jessie, we found out that the speaker would be, drumroll please…..Oprah!!!!! Oooh!!!!!!!
I think my cousin, Antia, might be the biggest Oprah fan in the world. Here she is going wild as Oprah walks into the stadium.
