Leonard Bernstein’s Mass - I feel redeemed.

Posted by: Steph on October 27th, 2008

For almost thirty years, I’ve been a big fan of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass. I’ve always thought it was wonderful energizing, exciting, and moving piece. However, it was categorized as musical kitsch and schlock. It was disdained because of its mix of wildly divergent musical styles and its focus on issues and concerns of the late […]

A Few Last Seattle Pics

Posted by: Steph on October 25th, 2008

I head back to Anchorage late this afternoon. I’ve been so exhausted that I decided to spend the night here instead of flying out last night.
I have to say, that was a good decision. I slept 12 hours and feel better than I have in more than a month. I’m going to do brunch at […]

Pilgrimage to Geocaching Headquarters!

Posted by: Steph on October 24th, 2008

This afternoon at 2:00 PM, Scott and I pilgrimaged to Groundspeak, the parent organization/sponsor of Geocaching. The Lily Pad is located here in Seattle. On Friday afternoons, they open up, by appointment, to geocachers who want to visit.
The visit was a real treat. We were taken on a tour, chatted with employees who are as […]

The Oval Office - Sarah Style

Posted by: Steph on October 21st, 2008

Palin as President is a hilarious interactive graphic of Sarah Palin occupying the oval office. It reminds me of an advent calendar - click on various objects and very funny things happen.
My favorites are the bridge, the door to the office (open and closed it three times for the full effect), the dinosaurs walking by […]

Mr. Whitekeys Fund Raiser for Ethan

Posted by: Steph on October 20th, 2008

Last night, we attended a fund raiser for Ethan Berkowitz. The event was at a neighbor’s home and featured Mr. Whitekeys, an Anchorage icon revered for his irreverant musical revues, such as the Whale Fat Follies, that poke fun at everyone - especially Alaska Politicians. Mr. Whitekeys was the proprieter of the Fly by Night […]

You Gotta Admit

Posted by: Steph on October 19th, 2008

O.K. - I’m not a McCain-Palin backer (I know - big shock), but Sarah Palin was pretty darn funny on Saturday Night Live. Last night, she was definitely “The Good Palin”, a good sport, funny, etc. Not “The Bad Palin” that we’ve seen way too much of on the campaign trail.

Cook Inlet Beluga Whales listed as Endangered

Posted by: Steph on October 19th, 2008

On Friday (Alaska day no less), NOAA officially listed the Cook Inlet Beluga Whale as an endangered species. Alaskan officials are besides themselves over the listing. In addition to the Belugas, Cook Inlet is home to oil wells, a large amount of shipping traffic, and sport and commercial fishing. Plus, the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) […]

Tundra Swans on the Lagoon

Posted by: Steph on October 18th, 2008

A flock of Tundra Swans has stopped over at Westchester Lagoon on their way south. This is extremely unusual - when swans stop by, they usually rest in south Anchorage at Potter Marsh. It’s a real treat to have them in the city.
Thursday night, Tyge and I were out for a walk on Coastal Trail […]

The Last Debate - Live from the Whale’s Tail

Posted by: Steph on October 15th, 2008

The Ski Boy and I are watching the debate at the Whale’s Tail with Isaac, Jim, Jason, Loretta, Keet, and Maya (who’s six and who’s in first grade and whose teacher is from Sri Lanka). There are lots of other Anchorites here. This is fun!!!!!
I’m also Twittering. I have to say this election has been […]
