Inauguration Afterglow
Even though today is a work day, I’ve had an absolute blast with inauguration activities. I was on a conference call at 7:00 AM AST (which is 11:00 PM EST). While on the call, I watched the CNN coverage via their web/facebook mashup page. Fantastic idea and execution on the part of CNN and Facebook. Great fun watching comments from all around the world go by as the events unfolded.
The visual of the sea of people on the Mall was absolutely stunning. And Seth and Maia were somewhere in that ocean of humanity.
The inaugural version of the Red Carpet was very entertaining. But instead of ball gowns and tuxes, the arriving dignitaries and luminaries were bundled up in appropriately understated and classy winter coats. I was also struck by everyone’s truly happy appearance. Our orderly transfer of power is really quite impressive.
Aretha’s rendition of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” rocked DC. And that hat!!!!
The Itzak Perlman, Yo Yo Ma quartert of John Williams’ arrangement of Copland’s “Shaker Hymn” was beautiful. As my buddy Joe, exclaimed, “Classical Music!”
I thought Obama’s speech was superb - spot on and very strong. I particularly appreciated the statement, “We will restore science to its rightful place.”
The parade was a total gas. What a celebration of Americana! I was enthralled (although still managing to do some work).
And I just love the look and image that Barak and Michelle project. And how could you not love the Obama kids??!!!
