Today we played host to a very nice neighborhood family: a cow moose and her two calves. They’ve been in and around the neighborhood for most of the summer. But today was the first day that they actually spent time with us. They arrived this morning at 8:00 AM as I peddled off to work. […]

Somehow it seems fitting to have spent this day hiking in the mountains. Tyge, Echo, and I reveled in the glorious Arctic Valley Fall. We climbed up to Clementine’s Geocache which was placed 6 years ago this month. After visiting the cache, we continued up to the Saddle, further up to Rendezvous Peak, and then […]

Our house remodel project was inspected this afternoon by a very noble neighborhood official - a large immature bald eagle. When the dogs and I drove up, I didn’t even notice him. But then I looked up and there he was. He was so still, I briefly wondered if our builders had installed a stuffed […]

As regular readers (all five of you) of the Slat Rat Chronicles know, Echo is vigorously omnivorous. She’ll eat anything, anytime, anywhere. Socks, shoes, food, etc. Her name really should have been “Hoover”. On Monday, she reached new heights, literally.
Echo, Tyge, and I went for a late lunch walk in the pouring rain. At one […]

During the second week in May, the demolition started. I don’t know what I was expecting. I knew the roof would go. But there’s a difference between knowing and actually seeing it gone! At this point, it began to look as if a hurricane went through. But, this was just the beginning.
In this view from […]

My Government Hill house, although truly wonderful, had a few issues. One of which was that it was not sealed very tightly. Lots of little openings, nooks and crannies, gaps, etc. The critters of Government Hill took full advantage of the opportunities, moved right on in, and availed themselves of the comforts of home - […]

On a Saturday evening early in April, we held an Open House - actually a “Wide Open House.”
Here’s the invitation text:
As many of you know, the remodel of our house on Government Hill is underway. The external foundation addition has been dug, fittings built, and filled back in. The interior has been completely demo’d. And […]

It’s been an eon since I last posted an update on our Government Hill remodel (let alone a blog post). The remodel has been proceeding - sometimes in mind blowing ways. I’ve been diligently photo-documenting each stage. But not so diligent in editing and posting pictures and updates.
Tonight, that all changes! I’ll start with pictures […]
