I have a new skill: baby Hairy Woodpecker rescue! A very lucrative field.
This morning, Echo and I headed out the door - Wednesday is doggie daycare day for the little E. She zoomed out the door into the driveway while I biscuited Tyge and closed the door.
As I was locking the door, I heard a […]

Last night (a glorious warm and sunny evening) around 9:30 PM, I was out with the dogs and happen to glance at the lagoon. And all that could be seen was water with ducks bobbing around. Evidently at some point yesterday the ice roared out. Only one other time have I ever seen it just […]

After yesterday’s day long rain, the ice has greatly diminished. But it is still a large chunk of there. If we had another day of rain and some strong wind, it could go out within the next two days. However, as I type it’s partly sunny and a light breeze.
So, my guess is that […]

I’ve been remiss - I was swept up by tropical Florida. I’m just now posting the entry list. And sadly both Carol and BJ are already out of the running. sigh…
The poochies and I took a long walk around the lagoon today. Although there are large open areas, there is still plenty of ice. At […]

Peter, Tyge and Echo at the Lagoon on Saturday April 16th
Holy Cow! Is this really the 10th Westchester Lagoon Ice Classic??!! Wow. This means, the first time we did this, I was 43 as opposed to 52. That was eons and eons and eons ago!
We’re in the last third of April! Normally, at this time […]

Yesterday was a milestone day on the house remodel front: the foundation excavation got under way! It’s a doubly big deal because digging big holes in Alaska in the winter is not an easy task. But as a result of the combined miracle of warm thawing blankies and the gravel that underlies Government Hill, the […]

Major work on the Great House Remodel of 2011 has been on hold over the past several weeks awaiting finalization of the engineering and the subsequent building permit. However, in the interim we’ve plugged away on basic stuff. The interior of the house is now completely down to studs, insulation, and duct work. New four […]

In Alaska, Spring is defined as warm bluebird days made for frolicking in the snow. Tyge, Echo, and I took advantage of an awesome lunch hour to zoom around on the Lagoon. Speaking of the Lagoon, we probably have another five weeks before we kick off the Westchester Lagoon Ice Classic. Afterall, this is Alaska […]

Super Bowl Sunday in Anchorage and at the Ski Boy-Slat Rat Manse is a ton of fun. Not only is there the Big Game hoopla, parties, and vibe, there is also the Alaska Ski For Women. Skiing and football - it doesn’t get any better.
Our family tradition is that I do the ski in the […]

Today was spectacular and bright! And the sun had actual warmth! We’ve definitely emerged from January’s dark and cold.
The poochies and I celebrated by a walk on the Lagoon. The romped, played, and unfortunately, feasted on moose droppings.
The noble Tyge!
